What is the scope of practice for family medicine physicians here, including opportunities for procedures and inpatient care?
Inpatient, Emergency Room, procedures such as toenail removal, sutures, endoscopes if trained etc., clinic, Intermediate Swing-bed
Can you describe the call schedule, weekend/night responsibilities, and how coverage is structured among medical staff?
Our goal is to have four providers sharing the on-call responsibilities. That would mean one weeknight/week call after clinic closes, and one weekend a month. Currently our providers are on-call on weeknights from 5P to 7A. If you take over at 7A you will be on call for the ED from 7A-7A the next morning. You could be seeing patients in the clinic and get called to the ER. Our ER volume is not high, and it is doable. If for some reason you have an extremely busy night in the ER, we can adjust the clinic schedule to allow some time for rest.
What kind of specialty and subspecialty support is available locally or via telemedicine (e.g., cardiology, OB/GYN, emergency)?
We have a system in our ED called Avel eCare telemedicine that you can contact support if needed.
What does a typical day or week look like for physicians in this role, including patient volume?
4-day work week, approximate 9–10-hour days give or take. Hospital rounding in the morning. Then to clinic across the street for patient visits. Would like our providers to see up to 17-18 patients a day. May be on-call for the ED and you might be back and forth from the clinic to the hospital if an ER patient presents to the hospital.
On-site staffing available?
PT, nursing, radiology, lab available during workday and then someone on call after hours for nursing, lab and radiology
What type of EMR is used?
Athena
Preferred Qualifications
MD or DO, family practice
What makes your organization and local community unique?
- We are the largest employer in our community. Our community needs this hospital especially if there is an emergency. The next closest hospital is 30 miles away. Small community where you get to know everyone. It is a safe community if you have a family. Your kids could ride their bike to the park, and you wouldn't have to worry about them. Good school system. We have the basics in town, but if you need a Walmart or more Dodge City is 30 miles away, and Garden City is 55. Very easy distances to travel for more shopping. There is an airport in Dodge City as well as Garden City.
